Taishan No.1 High School in Jiangmen, Guangdong province, has been officially recognized as a "Flying Tigers Friendship School" by the Sino-American Aviation Heritage Foundation. The announcement was made at the opening ceremony of the "Remembering Heroes: The Flying Tigers in Guangdong" photo exhibition held in Guangzhou on July 3. The school is one of the first in the province to receive this title.
As a friendship school, Taishan No.1 High School will take part in youth exchange programs between China and the United States, helping students learn about the history and spirit of the Flying Tigers while promoting friendship and understanding between the two countries.
The exhibition showcased over 100 historical photos and several artifacts related to the Flying Tigers, along with books on the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Some of the items on display came from museums in Jiangmen and Taishan.
Jeffrey Greene, chairman of the Sino-American Aviation Heritage Foundation, shared that many Chinese Americans have roots in Taishan. He noted the city's important place in history and expressed plans to bring American students to visit Taishan and its memorial to the Flying Tigers.
Liu Xiaoxin, a teacher from the school said the recognition is both an honor and a responsibility. The school plans to organize activities like online exchanges and student visits to help young people build friendships, learn from each other, and carry forward the spirit of peace and cooperation.
